Irvine Police Department will hold a Driving Under the Influence and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday, April 3, from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The checkpoint will be in the area of Jamboree Road and Dupont Drive.
Signs and lights will be set up to alert drivers as they approach the checkpoint. Officers will briefly speak with drivers using a set process. If a driver shows signs of alcohol or drug use, they will be directed to another area for further evaluation. Most drivers should only experience a short delay.
Checkpoint locations are chosen based on past collisions and DUI arrests in the area. Officers will be watching for drivers who may be under the influence and checking to make sure drivers have a valid license.
The Irvine Police Department encourages everyone to make safe choices before driving:
- Choose a sober driver or use a ride share service, taxi, or public transportation.
- If someone should not be driving, help them find a safe way home.
- Call 911 if you see a driver you believe may be impaired.
- If you are hosting a gathering, offer nonalcoholic drinks and help guests plan a safe ride home.
Funding for this checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety
through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
