The Irvine Police Department will conduct a Driving Under the Influence and Driver’s License checkpoint on Saturday, June 13, from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The checkpoint will be in the area of Culver and Walnut.
The checkpoint will feature clear signage and adequate lighting. Vehicles will be screened based on predetermined criteria, and drivers suspected of impairment will be directed to a secondary screening area. Most motorists should experience minimal delays.
Checkpoint locations are selected using collision data and DUI arrest statistics. Officers will monitor for signs of alcohol or drug impairment and ensure drivers are properly licensed.
The Irvine Police Department urges everyone to plan ahead and make safe decisions:
- Report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.
- Choose a sober driver or use a ride share service, taxi, or public transportation.
- If hosting a gathering, provide nonalcoholic options and help guests arrange transportation.
- If you see someone who should not be driving, step in and help them find a safe way home.
Funding for this checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
