The Irvine Police Department will hold a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Saturday, July 18, from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The checkpoint will be conducted in the area of Bake Parkway and Rockfield Boulevard.
The checkpoint will be clearly marked with signs and lighting to help guide motorists safely through the screening process. Vehicles will be selected using predetermined criteria. Drivers showing signs of alcohol or drug impairment will be directed to a secondary screening area for further evaluation. Most drivers can expect only a brief delay.
Checkpoint locations are determined using DUI arrest and crash data to improve roadway safety. During the operation, officers will look for impaired drivers and verify that motorists are properly licensed.
The Irvine Police Department encourages everyone to plan before heading out:
- If you suspect a driver is impaired, call 911.
- Designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service, taxi, or public transportation.
- If you are hosting friends or family, offer nonalcoholic beverages and help guests arrange a safe ride home.
- If someone you know should not be driving, help them find a safe alternative.
Funding for this checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
