The Irvine Police Department will conduct a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Saturday, August 8, from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The checkpoint will take place near MacArthur Boulevard and Main Street.
Officers will screen drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment and confirm they have a valid driver’s license. Motorists will be selected according to established guidelines, and those suspected of driving impaired will be directed to a secondary screening area. Signs and lighting will be used to guide traffic safely through the checkpoint. Drivers should expect only a short delay.
Checkpoint locations are selected based on data identifying areas with a history of DUI-related arrests and collisions. These operations are intended to remove impaired drivers from the road and verify that drivers are properly licensed.
The Irvine Police Department reminds everyone to make responsible transportation plans:
- Call 911 if you see a suspected impaired driver.
- Choose a designated sober driver or use a rideshare service, taxi, or public transportation.
- If you are hosting a gathering, provide nonalcoholic drinks and help guests arrange a safe ride home.
- Do not allow a friend or family member who may be impaired to drive.
