On August 17, 2026, at around 10 a.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) responded to a traffic collision involving a Chevrolet pick-up truck and a 78-year-old male pedestrian at the intersection of Yale Avenue and Meadowood.

IPD and Orange County Fire Authority responded and provided medical aid to the pedestrian, who was then transported to the hospital. Sadly, he passed away last night at the hospital.

Preliminary information indicates the driver of the Chevrolet stopped eastbound on Meadowood and drove into the intersection of Yale Avenue. His vehicle collided with the man who was walking northbound in the unmarked crosswalk on the east side of the intersection. The movement and timing of the actions of the parties involved are under investigation.

The pedestrian has been identified as Jinshui Li, who is an Irvine resident.

IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating this case. The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to this collision is asked to contact Detective Hank Gallegos at 949-724-7024 or hgallegos@cityofirvine.org.
