The Irvine Police Department (IPD) will hold a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Saturday, September 26, from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. in the area of Jamboree Road and Michelson Drive.

The checkpoint is part of IPD’s ongoing effort to reduce impaired driving and keep Irvine roadways safe. Officers will check for signs that drivers may be impaired by alcohol or drugs and ensure motorists have a valid driver’s license.

Checkpoint locations are selected using collision and DUI arrest data. Vehicles will be screened according to established guidelines, and drivers showing signs of impairment will be directed to a secondary screening area for further evaluation. Signs and lighting will be in place to help guide motorists safely through the checkpoint.

IPD encourages everyone to plan ahead before drinking. Choose a designated sober driver or use a rideshare service, taxi, or public transportation. If someone you know has been drinking, help them find a safe way home, and do not let them drive.

If you see a suspected impaired driver, call 911 and provide the vehicle description, location, and direction of travel when it is safe to do so.

Funding for this checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
